The Opportunity
This is a 12-week internship with start dates beginning in May through August 2026, depending on your availability. Nutanix offers hybrid internships where you would work from the San Jose, CA.

You will dive deep into some of the software industry's most demanding and popular fields. About the Team
The Core Data Path (CDP) team was the first team created at Nutanix. It is the team that is responsible for the Nutanix Distributed Storage Fabric (NDSF) - a high-performance shared-nothing distributed file system. We have sub-teams under the CDP umbrella which focus on core data path, data transformations, metadata and backup/recovery engines. In general, the work related to the CDP group is challenging because it involves designing an enterprise-grade distributed file system that provides durability with strict consistency and performance guarantees, and hence we always have to reinvent ourselves, with newer and faster algorithms and hardware technologies.
You will report to a Staff Engineer who is dedicated to supporting your growth and success within the team. The work setup at Nutanix is hybrid, requiring employees to be in the office 3 days a week. This balance allows for both in-person collaboration and flexibility for remote work, ensuring a productive and dynamic work environment.

Your Role
Within the CDP team, you'll will get an opportunity to collaborate with a team that:
- Designs and develop reliable, efficient, high-performance data-path software
- Solves complex customer requirements through innovative solutions
- Collaborate with technical staff/leaders to design and create design documents
- Depending on the team you're assigned, generate code that enhances product features and increases the speed and efficiency of the functionality of products
- Work with a mentor to define project objectives and key results
What You Will Bring
- Applicants must be authorized to work in the US without requiring current or future sponsorship for an employment visa status, such as F1, H1B, or TN.
- Pursuing a Bachelor's in Computer Science or a related engineering field
- Strong understanding of complex distributed systems
- Experience designing and developing reliable, efficient, high-performance software
- Familiarity with OS internals and good practices for design/implementation
- Proficiency in C++, Go, and Python
- Ability to work as part of a dynamic team
- Excellent problem-solving and innovation skills
- Strong communication and customer support abilities

Work Arrangement
Hybrid: This role operates in a hybrid capacity, blending the benefits of remote work with the advantages of in-person collaboration. In locations where our workplace policy applies (i.e. San Jose, Durham, Mexico City, Bangalore, Pune, Hoofddorp, Belgrade, Barcelona, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo), employees are expected to work onsite a minimum of 3 days per week to foster collaboration, team alignment, and access to in-office resources. Workplace type may vary based on location and team requirements. Please speak with your recruiter for details. Additional team-specific guidance and norms will be provided by your manager.
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between USD $ 36 and USD $ 60 per hour.
However, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
